I'll take your word for it on the studies you mentioned, but I can guarantee that PRACTICING abstinence is more effective than practicing safe sex.

I wonder what proof you have of this statement. The fact is that not having sex is a sure way to avoid getting an STD...whether people are smart enough to listen to this is another thing.

Another thought...the Church did not start AIDS, it does not spread AIDS, and if you followed the Church teachings you're very unlikely to get AIDS. It really irritates me when people say such ridiculous things about the Church.

The Church also teaches a 100% fool-proof way of avoiding the spread of AIDS. Why is their method unacceptable?

Don't forget that the Vatican is, technically, a city-state whose leader is the pope. But I do agree that the US isn't exactly a nation of prayer these days.

Informative post, Jivatman. I don't dispute anything...you appear much more knowledgeable on it than I am. My point was that when discussing religion, the natural progression is to try to persuade someone of your beliefs, or at least articulate why you believe them.

I'm not sure who you're trying to convince, Wheel. A person of faith does look solely to physical evidence to accept something as true.

I'll give you the best answer I have, but I am no theologian and not all that educated in terms of theology. I have not given thought to the eternity of consciousness, but I do believe our soul is eternal...whether these are the same thing, I'm not sure.
